Beach Access Issues

Posted in Uncategorized by eugecole on October 28, 2009

Landowners in Maine have property rights to the low-tide mark. This is unusual, most states give property rights only to the high tide mark. This distinction in Maine dates to a time when landowners would harvest from their beach, supplementing their incomes. Today this law is used by beachfront property-owners to simply keep beaches private.

Pay attention, this issue can pop up at any beach at any time.
